Kieron Testart
I'm proud to call Range Lake home and I've decided to run in this election because I have a deep love for our Yellowknife community, and I'm worried about our future.
I've seen how this place has shaped my children's lives, and I want to ensure they grow up in a thriving and safe environment. With tough times ahead, I know that my experience and dedication can help secure a better future for our community and for future generations.
Kieron was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on March 22, 1985, and moved with
his parents to the Northwest Territories in 1992, living in Tukotyaktuk. His family later moved to Yellowknife, where Kieron has lived ever since. He and his wife Colleen are raising their three kids, Corbin, Eve and Leander, together in the Range Lake neighborhood.
Kieron discovered his passion for leadership and public service as a grassroots political activist and public servant in Yellowknife. He has worked as a Deputy Sheriff and Policy Analyst for the Government of the Northwest Territories and he served as President of the Northwest Territories Federal Liberal Association and a Member of the National Board of Directors of the Liberal Party of Canada from 2012 to 2014.
Kieron has extensive experience in governance, politics and leadership, and was elected MLA for Kam Lake in 2015. During the 18th Assembly he served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations, Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Priorities and Planning and was a member of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Environment and the Special Committee on Transition Matters.
After serving his term as an MLA, Kieron worked in the non-profit sector before becoming the Director of Economic Development for the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. Kieron has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from his recent work, including serving as Incident Commander for Dettah and N’dilo during the wildfire evacuation. He understands the challenges the North is facing and is determined to meet them head-on.
Kieron is proud of his Canadian heritage, both English and French, and is a supporter
of Francophone culture and language in the Northwest Territories. Outside of politics, Kieron enjoys film, motorsport and tabletop games.
